Zip-Up vs Pullover Hoodies for Company Uniforms: Which to Order

Charcoal zip-up hoodie and burgundy pullover hoodie for company uniforms

Ordering hoodies for your team and stuck between a zip-up and a pullover? The short answer: zip-ups suit staff who wear the hoodie over a uniform and take it on and off during a shift; pullovers suit teams who want a relaxed look and a big, uninterrupted chest or back design. Here is how to decide, and what it changes about your logo and your order.

When a zip-up is the better company uniform

  • Staff work inside and outside: restaurant floor teams, delivery staff and warehouse staff move between warm and cold spaces all day.
  • The uniform underneath must stay visible: a polo with a logo, a name badge or an ID card can show through an open zip-up.
  • You want a smarter look: a zip-up, especially a mock-neck zipper jacket, reads closer to formal staff wear than a pullover.

When a pullover is the better choice

  • Offices, software houses and societies: the hoodie is the outer layer for the day, not something taken on and off every hour.
  • You want a big front design: a centred chest print or a large front graphic only works without a zip.
  • You need hoodies quickly in standard colours: ready-stock pullovers can be branded without making the garment from scratch, subject to availability. Fabric specifications and the timeline are confirmed in your quotation.

How the zip changes your logo

Chest logo placement

On a zip-up, the chest logo goes to the left or right of the zip. Our reference size is about 3 x 3 inches on the chest. A centred chest logo is a pullover-only option.

Back designs work on both

The back panel is uninterrupted on both styles, so a large back print of about 10 x 10 inches as a reference size works the same way. Many teams pair an embroidered chest logo with a printed back.

Embroidery or DTF?

Embroidery, done in-house, gives a premium stitched chest logo. DTF printing suits full-colour logos and large back designs. Read DTF vs screen printing vs embroidery to compare.

Can you mix both in one order?

Yes. A common setup is zip-ups for customer-facing or outdoor staff and pullovers for office or back-of-house staff, with the same logo and colour so the team still looks like one brand. Each style is quoted separately, and your quotation confirms the timeline for the whole order.

Ordering tips

  1. Decide the style per role, not for the whole company by default.
  2. Collect a size list for each style; zip-ups and pullovers in the same size can fit slightly differently, so ask staff to try a sample where possible.
  3. Send your logo, colours and quantities on WhatsApp for a free basic mockup with your supplied artwork and a quotation.
  4. Ready-stock garments can be customised from one piece, subject to availability and design review. Minimum quantities for custom-made garments vary and are confirmed in your quotation.

Frequently asked questions

Is a zip-up hoodie more expensive than a pullover?

Usually, yes. A zip-up normally costs a little more per piece than a pullover in the same fabric. Your quotation shows the exact price for your style, quantity and branding.

Can you put a logo in the centre of a zip-up hoodie?

Not across the zip. On a zip-up the chest logo goes to one side, and larger designs go on the back.

Do you have zip-up hoodies in ready stock?

Our ready-stock range is pullover hoodies and sweatshirts. Zip-up hoodies and zipper jackets are made to your order.

Which is better for winter?

Both can be made in warm fleece. Choose a zip-up if staff need to adjust it during the day, and a pullover if it stays on.
