DTF vs Screen Printing vs Embroidery: Which Method Fits Your Order?

DTF vs screen printing vs embroidery: choosing the right branding method affects how your artwork looks, how the finished garment feels and whether the method suits the order you are planning. The three most common options are DTF printing, screen printing and embroidery. None is automatically “best” for every job.

This guide helps Lahore businesses, restaurants, schools, teams and clothing brands choose the method that matches their design, garment and order requirements.

DTF printing: best for full-colour artwork and flexible quantities

DTF printing in Lahore is a transfer-based method. Your artwork is printed in full colour onto film, cured with adhesive powder, then heat-pressed onto the garment.

Choose DTF when

  • Your design includes multiple colours, gradients, small details or photographic artwork.
  • You need names, numbers or different artwork across a small run.
  • You want custom printing on T-shirts, polos, hoodies, jackets, caps or workwear.
  • You need a single piece, a sample, or a larger custom order.

Consider before choosing DTF

DTF creates a smooth printed layer on the garment. It is ideal when colour accuracy and detailed artwork matter most. Share your design and garment choice first so the print size and placement can be confirmed in the mockup.

Screen printing: best for repeated bold designs

Screen printing in Lahore applies ink through prepared screens, usually one screen per colour. It is a practical choice when the same artwork will be repeated across a larger order.

Choose screen printing when

  • The artwork is bold and uses a limited number of solid colours.
  • The same design will be printed repeatedly across a bulk order.
  • You want a traditional ink-print finish for team shirts, event apparel or promotional garments.

Consider before choosing screen printing

Each colour in the artwork affects screen preparation. For this reason, a simple logo or graphic is usually more suitable than a photograph or design with many colour transitions. Send the final artwork before production so the correct method can be recommended.

Embroidery: best for premium logos, uniforms and durable texture

Custom embroidery in Lahore stitches your logo, name or artwork directly into the garment. It gives polos, workwear, caps, jackets and uniforms a raised, premium finish.

Choose embroidery when

  • You need a company logo on uniforms, polos, caps or jackets.
  • You want a textured, professional finish rather than a printed surface.
  • You are ordering personalised pieces with names, initials, crests or simple artwork.
  • The design is suited to stitching after it has been digitised.

Consider before choosing embroidery

Very small text, fine gradients and photo-style artwork may need to be simplified before stitching. A clean embroidery file and a digital proof help avoid detail loss. For logos, a standard front-chest placement is commonly around 3 × 3 inches unless your garment or artwork requires another size.

Quick decision guide

Your requirement Usually the strongest option
Full-colour graphic, gradients or detailed art DTF printing
One repeated bold design across a larger order Screen printing
Corporate logo on polos, caps, jackets or uniforms Embroidery
Names, numbers or small personalised orders DTF printing or embroidery, depending on the artwork

Embroidery vs DTF on hoodies and sweatshirts

Hoodies and sweatshirts are the garments where this choice comes up most. Fleece is thick and soft, so both methods work well on it, but they suit different parts of the design.

Embroidery DTF printing
Look and feel Raised, stitched texture with a premium finish Smooth, flat print that sits on the fabric
Detail and colour Best for bold shapes, clear text and a limited number of thread colours Handles full colour, gradients, photos and fine detail
Best placement Left chest, sleeve, back yoke Large back designs and full-colour chest prints
Wash life Very hard-wearing through regular washing Holds well when applied and washed correctly: inside out, without high heat
What drives the cost Logo size and stitch density Print size; usually the cheaper option for a small chest logo

A popular setup for company and restaurant hoodies is an embroidered chest logo with a DTF print on the back. Need help with zip-ups? On a zip-up hoodie the chest logo goes beside the zip, so a large front design is a pullover-only option. See our custom hoodies and sweatshirts.

Which is better, DTF or embroidery?

Neither is better for every job. Choose embroidery for a premium logo that will be washed often, such as a uniform chest logo. Choose DTF for full-colour artwork, gradients or a large design.

Is DTF printing cheaper than embroidery?

For a standard chest logo of about 3 x 3 inches, DTF is usually the cheaper option. Embroidery costs more as logo size and stitch density rise, but gives a stitched, premium finish. For a large full-colour back design, DTF is usually more practical too. Your quotation confirms the price for your exact logo.

What are the disadvantages of DTF printing?

DTF sits on top of the fabric, so it does not have the stitched texture of embroidery, and a very large solid print feels less breathable than bare fabric. It also needs correct washing (inside out, no high heat) to last its best.

Get the method right before production

The fastest way to choose correctly is to send your logo or artwork, garment type, quantity and required placement. FS Custom Prints will review the artwork and provide a free basic mockup before production. If artwork needs redesigning or digitising, that is quoted separately.

For uniforms, compare the print method with your garment choice as well. A custom polo shirt with an embroidered chest logo has a different purpose and finish from a full-colour DTF event T-shirt. Choosing the method around the actual job prevents avoidable rework and helps the final order look professional.
